Arlington is an affordable housing apartment building located in a gritty urban setting across from Ottawa’s bus terminal. The building is separated from the bus station by a busy commuter street servicing the Queensway. We sought to playfully capture the looseness of bus culture and the comings and goings of suburban commuters as they rose to or dropped from the adjacent freeway. We created three dramatically angled metal canopies that animate the building’s collage of plywood, metal and brick as cars, buses and people pass by.
