PARKDALE PARK RENEWAL
Conceptually, the re-design for Parkdale Park was inspired by the fantasy world of a child and the bulbous colours of the adjacent Parkdale Market. Canopies become hap-hazard kites suspended in the blue sky, bright red cement balls are giant tomatoes to sit and play on, and the existing fieldhouse, is painted with reds and oranges and then clad in grey metal grating (to detour graffiti), creating an optical illusion of colour as one views the building from different angles. The park and market are now “intertwined” and regarded as the “heart” of the community providing residents of all ages a vibrant green space to enjoy recreational activities and social events as well as a place to shop for fruits and vegetables.
